I am finally getting around to posting these delicious brownies.  I’m sorry it took me so long!  They are worth the wait though.  Did you see that picture?!  I think they might just be my go-to brownie from now on.  Forget about if you think you don’t like Nutella or how you feel about it, (although really, who doesn’t like Nutella?) these brownies are so perfect in their own right.  I think it is the Nutella that keeps them gooey in the middle and wonderful even days after making them.  Once you’ve made these you might be done looking for that perfect brownie recipe.  They also come together really easily.

If you follow me on Facebook you will know that I made these brownies for the first time a couple weeks ago.  Our friends Tami and Barry were coming over for an impromptu cook out.  I had already planned to make these for myself 🙂 and then it got even better because I wouldn’t eat the entire pan since company was coming.  As I took the pan out of the oven it slipped out of my hand and landed face down on the floor, Nutella Brownies in a big pile.  There was some definite weeping and moaning.  I grieved for a couple of minutes and then decided I WOULD be having these brownies tonight…and whipped up another batch.  Thankfully those made it to the counter, cooled, and we polished off the whole pan pretty quickly.  My lovely Facebook friends decided that I was just living up to the name of my blog…Cooking Amid CHAOS.  I try people.  (if you don’t follow me on Facebook, you really should, see what you are missing?)

Now!  On to the brownies…..   First, chop up some chocolate.  I used some 70% cacao I had on hand…it was great.  I’m sure you could use semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips as well.

Then dump all of your dry ingredients in a bowl and whisk together.

When that’s done, dump in that lovely chocolate

Mix the oil and eggs together in a separate bowl and add to the dry ingredients (I have not had a chance to look for hazelnut extract, therefore I didn’t put it in this batch):

Then comes the wonderful moment….the adding of the Nutella!

nutella brownies  Isn’t it gorgeous!?  Are you drooling yet?

Mix everything together and spread into a greased 8×8 pan.  Bake, let cool briefly, and dive IN.

Oh, you could bake a pan of these for your Mama this weekend.  THAT would be a great Mother’s Day gift.  Just a thought…

Nutella Brownies

3/4 cup flour

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup bittersweet chocolate, (2 ounces) coarsely chopped

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/3 cup canola oil (sometime I’m going to try applesauce instead)

2 large eggs

1/2 tsp hazelnut extract

1/3 cup Nutella

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease the bottom and sides of a 9-inch round cake, pie pan or 8×8 square pan.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Add in the chocolate chunks. Whisk until blended.
In a separate bowl, mix together the oil, eggs, and extract with a fork until just blended.
Pour the liquid over the flour mixture and mix with a spoon until just blended. The batter will be kind of dry, don’t worry.  Add in the nutella and stir until combined.  Scrape the mixture into the pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick or cake tester inserted into the center comes out with only a few gooey pieces clinging to it. Transfer the baking dish to a cooling rack and let cool. Cut into wedges, squares, or just eat from the pan 🙂
*** A friend of mine made these gluten-free by substituting Pamela’s Baking Flour in place of the all-purpose flour.  It is likely other flour mixes can also be used.

  1. OMG yessssss. We just made a mint chocolate chip cookie Thin Mint stuffed fudge brownie that is UNREAL. Check it out on our blog. We will be sure to give this one a try! YUM!

  2. These look scrumptious! Personally do not like Nutella plain (usually), but I do really like it IN cooked items OR frozen. 🙂

  3. I made these gf, and they disappeared! T-man said they were a bit ‘rich’ for his tastebuds, but all the ladies in our house (and two guests last Fri) enjoyed them immensely!
